When farmers receive a goat from us, they are required to return one after the animal gives birth. All of the people interviewed in this film received a goat, were able to return a kid to us and then went on to have more babies from the original goat. With careful husbandry, one goat can multiply into many. Goats are a favorite food in Haiti and, especially around the new year, can sell for quite a bit of money. They represent a "savings account" for the farmer, many of whom have no access to banks. Our goat program is an important part of what we do in Haiti.
